Charter Medical and St Mary’s Hospital work in partnership to provide a unique service for elderly patients in need of expert, rapid geriatric assessment. The service is provided in Charter’s state of the art medical facility and utilises the expertise of Consultant Geriatricians and a specially trained medical and nursing team.
The service caters for individuals 70 years and older with urgent but stable medical conditions and is located in the Charter Medical Building in Smithfield, Central Dublin. The service is covered by the HSE for general practitioners in the Mater catchment area and is operated in partnership with Mater consultants. It is free provided you are referred by your general practitioner and he / she is covered on the scheme.
Patients aged 70 years and older suitable for wheel chair access, stable but urgent medical condition, referred by General Practitioner or Emergency Department
A small number of referred patients may require hospital admission. The Charter RAC team will arrange this at the most appropriate medical facility and organise suitable patient transport.
A telephone help line is available at the clinic to deal with any medical or patients queries.
Patients are allocated appointments from 08.30 to 16:00 Monday to Friday as required.
The service is provided by Charter Medical and St Mary’s Hospital and is funded by the HSE. All assessments, investigations and treatments are therefore free at point of entry.
Patients must be referred by either their general practitioner or the Emergency Department.
